Health and Well Being (Commitment)

Commitment – willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something.  Making commitments and sticking with it can be very difficult and stressful at times.  One of the biggest commitments I make is to my health and fitness.  When I choose a fitness program, I commit from beginning to end and don’t let anything distract me from reaching my goal.

It is so difficult to make commitments and not give up on them.  There will be many distractions and other obligations that can get in the way.  Things such as life events, work, lack of sleep and even your mood can make committing to things difficult.  Here are some things that can help with commitment:

  • Set goals for yourself
  • Revisit those goals often as you start a new week
  • Surround yourself with positive influences
  • Join a support/accountability group

Support groups are another way to stay committed and be influenced by others on the same path.  These groups help you stay accountable to your workouts and keep you motivated to stay focused to reach your goals.  Personally, I am always in a support group because I know that the people I engage with are on the same path as me.  Also, I know that those people are looking up to me for support and encouragement.  It is so rewarding both mentally and physically once you make the commitment and stick with it to the end.
