Yoga for the Body and Mind
After completing another intense workout program (Core De Force), I decided it was time to switch gears and do another round of the 3 Week Yoga Retreat. I had a few areas of my body that were sore, overused and needed to heal. In September, I completed my first round of the yoga retreat and was looking forward to doing it again. I hesitated because of the timing during the holiday weeks. I felt if I fell off track with my nutrition by indulging in a few extra treats that I would need extra cardio workouts. I was WRONG, and the results proved it. I made the commitment to the yoga retreat and it was the best thing for my body and mind.
After the first week, the soreness had decreased and I was already feeling the nice stretch to my body. Week 2 started with a bad cold, cough and congestion. I was not giving up on my workouts and thankful it was yoga, otherwise I would not be able to get in an intense workout. I pushed through week 2 despite not feeling well and having a hard time getting in those deep breaths. I persevered and continued to week 3.
During week 3, I was feeling a bit better. The workouts were a little more intense but it felt great for the body. My flexibility and balance improved as well. My nutrition was off and on during this time because of the cold and the holiday treats. But, I actually lost a few pounds, and all my injuries and soreness had subsided. This was with no cardio or weight training workouts, just the 3 Week Yoga Retreat!
Recently, I have started another round of Core De Force and I am amazed at my strength. We may think yoga is not intense enough and we are not getting in enough of a workout, however, this is not the case. I feel stronger, energized, flexible and balanced. My body needed this rest and time to recover, which is so important for the body and mind. If you are a marathon runner, elite athlete or commit to intense workout programs, I highly recommend taking the time for yourself and commit to the 3 Week Yoga Retreat. Your body and mind will thank you.
